Money, wealth, prosperity

Prosperity in Old Testament

Prosperity as a Lords gift is blessing
In Bible we can read that Abraham (Genesis 13:2), Isaak (Genesis 26:12), Jacob ([Genesis 30:43][3]), Joseph (Genesis 41:40), David ([2 Samuel 5:9-10][5]), Solomon ([1 Kings 10:23][6]) all are not only blessed and rich, their wealth is given them by God, but also they are humble servants of God.

**Wisdom is over wealth**
>[Proverbs 8:10-21][7]
Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

**Diligent work leads man to prosperity**
>[Proverbs 10:4][8]
A slack hand causes poverty,
but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

**Rich man have many friends**
>[Proverbs 14:20][9]
The poor is disliked even by his neighbor,
but the rich has many friends.

**Moderate possessions are best**
>[Proverbs 30:7-9][10]
Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to me before I die:
Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that is needful for me,
lest I be full and deny you
and say, "Who is the LORD?"
or lest I be poor and steal
and profane the name of my God.

Wealth in New Testament
-----------------------

**Care more for your salvation than for your wealth**
>[Matthew 6:19-20][11]
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

**Don't let a profit guide you**
>[Matthew 6:24][12]
"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

**Don't care about material needs too much**
>[Matthew 6:25][13]
"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

**Beware of covetousness**
>[Luke 12:15][14]
And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

**Care only about necessities**
>[Acts 20:33-34][15]
I coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me.

**Don't keep company with covetous**
>[1 Corinthains 5:11][16]
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

**Rich sinners will be in misery**
>[James 5:1][17]
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.

**It's really very hard for rich to enter into the kingdom of God**
>[Luke 18:25][18]
For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.

**Unfair traders are like robbers**
>[Luke 19:45][19]
And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be a house of prayer,' but you have made it a den of robbers."

**Be content with your wages**
>[Luke 3:14][20]
Soldiers also asked him, "And we, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages."

**It's wrong to have more then you need, when someone has a lack**
>[2 Corinthians 8:14-15][21]
your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. As it is written, "Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack."

**Poor are blessed and woe to rich**
>[Matthew 5:3][22]
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

>[Luke 6:24][23]
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
